People stay with the BPO.
Across its whole 100-year history, the orchestra has only had four Music Directors. Some of our players have performed in BPO concerts for over 40 years. Some of our audiences saw those performers join.
As BPO approaches its centenary, we want you to help tell its story.
Perhaps you attended your first concert last season, when audiences tripled thanks to Joanna MacGregor’s enticing programming. Or perhaps you joined our online concerts during the pandemic. Maybe you have a favourite concert from Barry Wordsworth’s tenure, or you remember our Hove Town Hall concerts during Brighton Dome’s refurbishment.
You might have celebrated our 50th anniversary, when John Carewe joined us as Principal Conductor. You may even be lucky enough to have attended a Herbert Menges concert, before his death in 1972…
Whatever your stories – the highlights, the surprises, the changes – we want to hear them.
How to get involved
To submit your memory, please write it out and send it to:
Email: mail@brightonphil.org.uk
Post: Brighton Philharmonic Orchestra, Community Base, 113 Queens Rd, Brighton, BN1 3XG
Please include your connection to the orchestra (e.g. attendee, patron, performer) and a photograph, if you feel comfortable doing so. If you’d prefer to remain anonymous this can also be arranged.
Your memories can be short snippets or longer accounts, though we’d suggest a maximum of 500 words. You’re also welcome to email us a video instead.
How your story will be used
We’ll be sharing your memories on a specially curated Memories Wall on the BPO website. Our favourites may also be used across social media and in our other centenary activity.
If you have any questions, please contact us on mail@brightonphil.org.uk.
